The Laboratory of Economic Analysis and Policy develops its research activity with the participation of permanent and part-time academic and research staff.
The Laboratory is staffed by academic - research staff and collaborating educational staff, whose their field of interest coincides with the research and teaching interests of the Laboratory, research associates with qualifications of researcher, members of the Laboratory, the technical staff of the HOU, as well as postdoctoral, PhD candidates, postgraduate and other staff.

Evangelos Koumanakos is an Associate Professor at the School of Social Sciences, Hellenic Open University. Prior to moving to the HOU he worked at the Department of Economics-University of Ioannina and at the National Bank of Greece. He holds BSc degree in Business Administration from the University of Macedonia, MSc in Business Finance from Brunel University and PhD in Financial Accounting from the University of Patras. His current research focuses on policy evaluation, business ethics and corporate taxation with a particular interest in tourism sector. His work has been published in journals such as the Journal of International Economics, International Journal of Accounting, Auditing and Taxation, International Review of Financial Analysis.

Agiomirgianakis Giorgos (Brief CV)
George Agiomirgianakis is Professor of Economic Analysis and Policy at the Hellenic Mediterranean University (HMU). In the past he served for a number of years at the Hellenic Open University (HOU) as Academic Director of the undergraduate programmes: Business Tourism Administration and Business Administration, as well as, of the postgraduate programmes: Administration of Tourism enterprises, Banking and Enterprise Risk Management. He also served as Director of the Economic Analysis and Policy Lab in HOU.

Antonios Adamopoulos (Extended CV)
Dr. Antonios Adamopoulos is an academic fellow in the Management and Business Administration Department of the University of Western Macedonia and Adjunct Academic Staff of Hellenic Open University for the thematic unit Tourism Management.
He is a graduate of the Department of International and European Economic and Political Studies at the University of Macedonia, Greece. He also, has a Master Degree in Business Informatics by Applied Informatics Department of University of Macedonia, Greece and a Master Degree in Educational Management and Administration-Educational Leadership by Primary Education Department of University of Western Macedonia, Greece.
In 2009 he was awarded a PhD in Applied Informatics from the University of Macedonia, Greece with a field of expertise in Applied Economics and Econometrics.
His professional experience lies in the research and organizational work he has provided during numerous collaborations with various Higher Education Institutes.
Ηe has ten years of academic experience in Higher Education, where he has taught courses in the fields of Economics, Informatics and Applied Statistics.
Akrivos Christos (see extended bio)
Akrivos Christos is Adjunct Academic Staff at the Department of Business and Organizations Management (DEO) of the Hellenic Open University. He also teaches at the Neapoli University Pafos (Cyprus).
In the past he has taught at the Panteion University of Athens, the University of Piraeu, the National & Kapodistrian University of Athens, the WROCLAW Economic University (Poland), the Technological Education Institute of Athens, the Hellenic Military Academy and the National School of Public Administration. He has also taught at Colleges and Institutes of Lifelong Learning and Training.
He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics (1993) and a Law Degree (2013) from the National & Kapodistrian University of Athens, a Master’s Degree in Business Administration (1999) from the University of Piraeus and a PhD (2004) in Leadership and Strategic Management from the same University. He also holds a degree from the Robert Schuman University Tourism Academy in Strasbourg.
He has done a lot of research work and over the years he has participated in research projects and has published in Greek and international peer-reviewed journals and has attended and presented work in various conferences in Greece and abroad. He has authored 10 books and currently acts as a reviewer of the following journals: International Journal of Contemporary Hospitality Management, International Journal of Hospitality Management and Sport, Business, Management: An International Journal.
He has also worked as a project evaluator at the General Secretariat of Research and Technology and has received national and international awards (State Scholarships Foundation, Athens Chamber of Commerce and Industry, French Ministry of Development, etc.).
He is a member of the ΕEuropean Council of Small Enterprises and Entrepreneurship (a nonprofit research organization) and the Hellenic Chamber of Economists.
Konstantinos Gillas (see extended bio)
Konstantinos Gillas is Adjunct Academic Staff at the Department of Tourism Management (DIT) of the Hellenic Open University. He also teaches at the Department of Business Administration at the University of Patras (Greece). He has also worked in the private sector.
He holds a PhD in Financial Economics and Risk Management from the University of Patras (School of Business & Management, department of Business Aministration), a Master’s Degree in Accounting and Risk Management from the University of Piraeus (School of Statistics & Financial Science, department of Statistics & Insurance Science) and a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from the University of Crete (School of Social, Economics & Political Sciences, department of Economics).
He has extensive writing and research work and participation in national and international conferences. He is a reviewer in international scientific journals and holds important awards and scholarships. He speaks English and has extensive knowledge in the use of IT Applications (Statistical-Econometric software packages, programming languages, office applications, ERP, etc.
Anastasios Magkoutas (see extended bio)
Anastasios Magkoutas is Associate Professor of Applied Business Economics at the 'General Department' of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and since 2012 he is also Adjunct Academic Staff at the ΜΒΑ program of the Hellenic Open University. He has also worked for 15 years at the Anti-Drug Organisation (ΟΚΑΝΑ) as Head of the administrative services department.
He holds a PhD in Applied Economics from the School of Social Sciences of the Hellenic Open University and an MBA from Glamorgan University of Wales. His research interests include Human Capital and Education, Tourism Economics, Strategic Management and Innovation
Angeliki Menegaki
Dr Angeliki Menegaki gained her PhD in 2006 from the University of Stirling, Scotland. She also has a Master’s degree in Economics & Finance from University of Leeds. She completed her first BA studies in the Department of Economics (University of Crete) and her 2nd BA in the Department of Languages, Literature and Culture of Black Sea Countries (Democritus University of Thrace), where she followed the Specialization in Turkish Language.
From November 2017 was appointed Head in the Department of Management, Economics and Marketing for Tourist and Cultural Businesses in the Technological University of Central Greece. From January 2019, she is Associate Professor of Economics in the Agricultural University of Athens. Currently she is elected member of the Board for the departments of the former Technological University of Central Greece and Deputy Head of the new Department of Regional and Economic Development in Amfissa.
She has worked for many years in the public sector (as regional manager) and the private bank sector. She has taught in various universities in Greece and abroad. She has published more than 50 papers in international scientific journals with an impact factor and has received more than 1000 citations. She is the editor of the book “The economics & econometrics of the energy-growth nexus” published in Elsevier.
She has co-supervised the translated versions of the books “The economics of tourist destinations” of Vanhove, Norbert and “The economics of recreation, leisure and tourism” of Tribe, John under Gutenberg Publications.
Her research interests are the economics of the environment and natural resources as well as the interaction of tourism with the environment. She is member of the editorial board in the journal Renewable Energy (Elsevier).
Daphne Nicolitsa (see extended bio)
Daphne Nicolitsa is Assistant Professor in Department of Economics at the University of Crete and Adjunct Academic Staff (SEP) in Economics and Policy (DEO34) at the Hellenic Open University.
She holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Manchester, UK (1992 – Thesis: Strike Mobilization – an empirical investigation for the UK) and a “Master of Philosophy” in Economics from Oxford University, United Kingdom (1988). She received her undergraduate Degree in Economics from the Athens School of Economics and Business (ASOEE) (1986).
She has worked as economic adviser for the Bank of Greece (Directorate of Financial Studies, 2004-2014), and has also acted as Vice Director of the same department (2010-2014). During her tenure at the Bank of Greece she was seconded to the European Central Bank for six months (2008-2009) as Principal Economist.
She has also worked at Commercial Bank of Greece (Emporiki) (Assistant Director of economic analysis, 2001-2004), at the Council of Economic Advisers in the Ministry of National Economy (1999-2001) (Senior Economist at the Economic Analysis & Research Unit), and at the Foundation for Economic and Industrial Research (IOBE), as a Research Associate (1998-1999).
She has also worked abroad as an economist at Tudor Proprietary Trading LLC, London (1997-1998) and as a Research Officer at the Institute of Economics & Statistics of Oxford University (1992-1997).
Her research interests are Labour markets, Applied Economics, Industrial organization and European Economy.
George Economides (see extended bio)
George Economides is currently an Associate Professor of Economics at the School of Economic Sciences (Department of International and European Economic Studies, DIEES) of the Athens University of Economics and Business.
He was born in Athens in 1973. He holds a B.Sc. in International and European Economic Studies from Athens University of Economics and Business, a M.Sc. in Economics from University of York (UK) and a Ph.D. in Economics from Athens University of Economics and Business. Former positions include Visiting Lecturer in Economics at the University of Cyprus (2001-2002). He is also Research Fellow at CESifo, Munich. His main research area is Macroeconomic Theory and Policy. Recently, the main focus of his research has been on the use of dynamic stochastic general equilibrium models to study public sector reforms as well as the impact of climate change on economic policy design.
He has published more than twenty-five articles in international academic journals, including Review of Economic Dynamics, Scandinavian Journal of Economics, Journal of Public Economic Theory, Oxford Economic papers, Public Choice, International Tax and Public Finance, Macroeconomic Dynamics, Journal of Macroeconomics, European Journal of Political Economy and CESifo Economic Studies.
He has co-authored three books among which “The Economics of Climate Change” and “A blueprint for exiting the crisis: A new model of production for Greece”. He has also participated and presented his work at a large number of international conferences and has refereed articles for many international academic journals. Finally, he has acted as guest Editor for the European Journal of Political Economy and CESifo Economic Studies.
Theodore Papadogonas (see extended bio)
Theodore Papadogonas is professor of Economics at the General Department of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, and Adjunct Faculty Member of the Hellenic Open University. He received his Bachelor’s Degree from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and his Master’s and PhD degree from the Athens University of Economics and Business.
His major research interests include Industrial Organization, Research and Development, Technological Innovation, Market Structure, the Economics of SMEs, Private and Public Debt Development, Inequality – Relative Poverty and the recent Crisis.
He has been a member of Hellenic Statistical Authority, the General Secretariat for Research and Technology and the Bank of Greece as well as a professor at the Technological Educational Institute of Central Greece. He has represented Greece as a national delegate in several OECD and Eurostat Working Parties. He has also acted as an academic referee for several well-established academic and scientific journals. He is the author of 8 books and more than 50 articles in prestigious international scientific journals, international conference proceedings and edited volumes.

George Sfakianakis is Associate Professor of Economic Analysis at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and Adjunct Faculty Member at the Hellenic Open University. He has also taught at the Athens University of Economics and Business and the Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences (postgraduate level).
He studied economics at the Athens University of Economics and Business where he obtained his doctoral degree on Economic Analysis (Endogenous Economic Growth - Ph.D. in Economics).
He has worked for the Council of Economic Advisers at the Hellenic Ministry of Economy and Finance where he has also been appointed as Chairman. During the latter period, he was the Alternate of the Minister of the Hellenic Ministry of Economy and Finance at the Eurogroup and the ECOFIN Council and Alternate Director of the I.M.F. for Greece participating in the Annual Meetings of the I.M.F. and the World Bank.
He has represented Greece in numerous Committees abroad, including the Economic Policy Committee (E.P.C.), the Economic and Financial Committee (E.F.C.), the Euro Working Group (E.W.G.) and the Group of National Experts for Forecasting of the Commission of the E.U., as well as the Economic Policy Committee (E.P.C.), the Working Party 1 (WP1) and the Committee on Financial Markets (C.F.M.) of the O.E.C.D.
He has been a member of the Board of Directors of the Public Power Corporation (DEH S.A.), the Athens Trolley Company (HLPAP S.A.), the Public Debt Management Agency (ODDHX) and the Foundation for Economic and Industrial Research (IOBE).

Nikolaos Tsounis (see extended bio)
Nikolaos Tsounis is Professor of Economics at the Department of Economics, University of Western Macedonia (Kastoria, Greece). He has experience in distance learning at the Hellenic Open University (since 2006). He has also taught at the University of Manchester, the Hellenic Air Force Academy, the National School for Public Administration, Department of Commerce.
He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from the department of Economics at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, a Master’s in Economics and a PhD in Economics (specializing in Theory and International Trade) from the University of Manchester, Department of Economics.
He is the author of more than 40 scientific papers and 5 monographs that have received more than 300 citations. He has edited 8 volumes. He is a reviewer of research projects in many countries (Russia, Slovakia, Serbia, Czech Republic and EU). He has been member of scientific committees of many conferences and is the co-founder (with Aspasia Vlachvei) and chairman of the annual International Conference on Applied Economics (ICOAE).
He is associate editor of the International Journal of Computational Economics and Econometrics and member of the editorial board of three international journals. He has acted as guest editor in International Journal of Financial Economics and Econometrics, Journal of International Trade Law and Policy, Open Journal of Applied Sciences and Journal of European Economy.

Manolis Petrakis has a Bachelor’s Degree in Informatics from the University of Crete (Computer Science Department) και and a Master’s Degree in Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Nicosia. He also holds a certificate of English language proficiency.
He has worked in the public sector (Department of Project Development of Crete, Heraklion Port Authority SA, Municipality of Heraklion) and also in the private sector (consulting development companies) with a focus on implementation, administrative support and financial management of European programs and co-financed projects.
Since 2018, he has been working as a scientific associate of the Economic Analysis and Policy Lab for the project "Supporting Research at the School of Social Sciences of the Hellenic Open University".
